Overview
Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships fund master’s study at partner universities in the UK and South Africa for nationals of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. In 2026 the Trust awarded 19 scholarships.
In the UK the Trust supports one-year taught MSc programmes with a research component; applicants must first hold an offer from a UK partner university.
To support future leaders who will contribute to the economic and social development of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Who Can Apply
Nationals and permanent residents of Zambia, Zimbabwe or Malawi applying for a master's at a Beit partner university, who have not already begun the course and generally do not already hold a postgraduate degree.

UK partner universities: Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, St Andrews (Computer Science only) and Strathclyde (engineering only); also partner universities in South Africa.

"Fully funded" here means the published coverage includes full tuition and a living allowance. Costs not listed above may not be covered.
Funding Details
The scholarship covers full tuition and academic fees (paid to the university), a living allowance, the UK visa and Immigration Health Surcharge, TB test and biometric costs, arrival, laptop and departure allowances, and economy flights to and from your study destination. Spouses and dependants are not supported.

Academic requirements
Degree: An honours degree (First or Upper Second Class or equivalent); preference goes to a Distinction or Merit (Upper Second) undergraduate degree.
Work experience
Preferred
Relevant professional experience is highly valued; as a guideline, at least three years with a positive employer reference strengthens an application. Medical and veterinary applicants need 18 months of internship and at least one year of in-country posting.
Subject / field
Developmental disciplines such as medicine and health, engineering, education, economic growth, agriculture and conservation. MBA programmes are not supported.
Leadership and achievement
Strong emphasis on leadership potential in academic, professional or community settings.

How to Apply
University admission first: You need an offer (or an application) from an eligible university before, or as part of, the scholarship application.
- Apply directly to one or more Beit UK partner universities and tell them you are applying for Beit funding.
- Once you have your offers (conditional offers are acceptable), submit one Beit application online with up to four courses between 1 December 2026 and 12 February 2027.
- Upload all documents in one sitting and send your referees the reference link.

Offer letter(s) from UK partner universities, degree certificates and transcripts, other academic certificates, a CV, a personal statement of up to 300 words on how your studies will benefit your country, a recent photograph, a valid passport copy and three references (academic, character and employer).

Selection Process
Shortlisting is based on merit, eligibility and fit with the Trust's criteria. Interviews are usually held in April, in person in Lusaka, Harare and Blantyre. Not all interviewees receive scholarships.

Important Conditions
- Your stated intention to return to your home country is a key consideration.
- Support for PhD study is considered only exceptionally, for Beit Scholars of outstanding merit.
