Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarships fund outstanding UK and overseas students starting a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, with tuition fees and a stipend at the UKRI rate for three to four years.
Who Can Apply
Applicants of outstanding academic merit and research potential starting the first year of a PhD, with (or expecting) a UK first or 2:1 honours degree or the international equivalent. Candidates who already hold a PhD are not generally considered.

Funding Details
Amount: GBP 20,780 per year (Stipend at the UKRI rate (2025-26 figure))
Each scholarship covers the University tuition fee and a stipend equivalent to the UKRI rate (GBP 20,780 in 2025-26), for three to four years as agreed by the School/College, subject to satisfactory progress (pro rata for part-time).

University admission first: You need an offer (or an application) from an eligible university before, or as part of, the scholarship application.
Apply for PhD admission first, then complete the online scholarship application in EUCLID via MyEd. Informatics and Physics & Astronomy applicants are assessed automatically; Biological Sciences applicants apply to the School.
Important: scholarship eligibility and university admission requirements may be different. Check both before applying.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed in person or by telephone. Financial status, nationality and field of study are not taken into account.

Important Conditions
- Cannot be held with a fully funded scholarship; partial scholarships reduce it pro rata.
- Scholars undertake a training and development package.
