Study Business & Management Abroad

How organisations are led, financed, marketed and run, from start-ups and family firms to multinationals and public bodies.

Why study Business & Management?

Business and management study how organisations make decisions and create value. The subject spans core functions such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Operations Management, together with broader areas such as Business Strategy, Entrepreneurship and International Business.

Students learn to read financial statements, analyse markets, manage projects and people, and use data to support decisions. Many specializations apply management to a particular setting, including Supply Chain Management, healthcare, hospitality, sport, luxury and fashion, so the subject can be combined with an existing interest.

Business suits students who like working with people and numbers and want a practical understanding of how organisations operate. Trade, supply chains and finance are international, so studying business in another country can add useful exposure to different markets, regulations and working cultures. Case studies, group projects and placements are common features of many programmes.

Looking ahead

Business and management are evolving through the everyday use of data and AI. Students may increasingly encounter Business Analytics, the automation of routine finance and administrative work, and marketing driven by customer data, which raises the value of analytical skills combined with sound judgement.

Sustainability is becoming part of mainstream management rather than a separate function. Areas receiving growing attention include sustainability reporting, responsible supply chains, Corporate Governance and the risks associated with climate change and geopolitical disruption. Entrepreneurship is changing as well, with lower barriers to starting digital businesses and more attention to social enterprise and impact investment.

Working patterns are changing too, with hybrid and distributed teams, platform business models and closer links between finance and technology through FinTech. Students interested in leadership may find that change management, ethics and cross-cultural communication matter increasingly alongside technical business knowledge.
